This is Somerset --
DUTCH jazz/pop singer Caro Emerald and her eight-piece band stormed the Colston Hall with a stunning mixture of hip hop, jazz, pop, swing and Latin.
Performing tracks from her latest number one album The Shocking Miss Emerald and backed up by favourites from Deleted Scenes From The Cutting Room Floor, Caro and her band breezed through a couple of hours without seeming to stop for breath.
The variety of styles is astonishing and there is something for everyone, from the Bossa Nova of Riviera Life to the swing of Doctor Wanna Do, which of course featured in Strictly Come Dancing when Lewis and Flavia danced the Charleston.
Of her latest material Liquid Lunch was a real crowd pleaser and her James Bond style I Belong To You was lapped up by the increasingly enthusiastic audience.
The stage set was dazzling with neon images on lighting pillars which accompanied and enhanced each song in turn.
Caro was generous in deflecting appreciation towards the band and how they deserved it. The brass section were brilliant and the lead guitarist was vital to almost everything that happened.
We knew from her recordings that Caro could sing but to hear her live was something else. The clarity and range of her voice was simply gorgeous and she never tired or faltered, a virtually perfect vocal display!
The big finale was the massive hit A Night Like This which had the audience bouncing before a well deserved encore of The Other Woman and That Man. Brilliant!
Caro has announced that her arena tour in 2014 has been postponed until October because she is expecting a baby. Congratulations Caro ! Reported by This is 1 day ago.
