Swansea Museum joins Evening Post to launch new mystery object feature This is South Wales -- SWANSEA Museum is teaming up with the Evening Post to introduce a new feature that should get time detectives hot under the collar. The oldest museum in Wales has agreed to share its fascinating treasure trove of Swansea's past history with our readers through an innovative object of the week feature. From an Egyptian Mummy to some of the world's earliest photographs and a traditional Welsh kitchen to rare Swans memorabilia what is on display is just the tip of the iceberg with around 100,000 items in storage at the museum's Landore depot. Each week experts from the Victoria Road museum, which is based in the city's Maritime Quarter, will select an artefact to share with our readers. Firstly a picture of the object will be published on out website, www.southwales-eveningpost.co.uk, in order for people to make a guess about its antiquity and relevance to our area. Karl Morgan, Interpretation Officer for Swansea Museum Service, said: "The museum welcomes the chance to show the public selections from our collection of over 100,000 objects, many of which have never been on show. "The displays in the museum are just the tip of the iceberg, the Museum Collections Centre at Landore, open on Wednesdays allows people to see the objects behind the scenes, but this feature in The Evening Post is a great opportunity to open up the collection even more." The first artefact to feature was every schoolboys dream back in the 1970's - a toy car. Not just any toy car but a scale mode of 007's Lotus Esprit seen in the 1977 James Bond film The Spy Who Loved Me. Evening Post editor Jonathan Roberts said: "We think our readers will love this feature. It will provide an opportunity to peek into a treasure chest of artefacts, and learn more about our city's history through the fascinating stories each piece will tell. It will certainly be an enjoyable trip down memory lane for many." Reported by This is 8 hours ago.
